| Question: |
 |
You're running for re-election to the Clark County Commission (District B). What qualifies you
to serve? |
| Answer: |
The short answer is deep roots and a stake in our future. I've lived in Clark
County for over 55 years. I went to school here, was married here and raised my
family here. I've done volunteer service right here for thirty-five years.
I've been part of public life for nearly that long, serving on commissions,
including 7 years on the North Las Vegas Planning Commission, other committees, five terms in the Nevada Legislature and now as County Commissioner. My wife Kathy and I built our business
here. But it goes deeper than that.
It's my connection with people and what I've learned from them. I've worked
with kids and parents in youth activities. I've worked with 4-H and Future Farmer
projects in the valley areas. I've helped well owners on localized problems and
worked on transportation issues affecting all of us. I've worked on school overcrowding
in our urban sector. I know this area, and I know the people who live here. I
try to put what I know into practice each day. I try to be a good neighbor.

| Question: |
What's the biggest challenge you see for District B and Southern Nevada in
the coming years? |
| Answer: |
Just like the rest of Southern Nevada, Commission District B faces the challenges
brought about by rapid growth. Now, this economic slow down has created new worries for the average worker, homeowners, and businesses.
Balancing growth while maintaining the integrity of our older neighborhoods will continue to be an issue for years to come. We have to look at our economic forecasts, tighten our belts and still provide essential services people need every day.
I haven’t lost site of the unique issues in District B. Many long-time residents worry about their rights as landowners. Well owners are feeling the crunch brought about by construction projects and the increased need for water, and those with rural estates see the once-open spaces surrounding their land disappearing.
We must work to ensure that green space is set aside for recreation, the environment is protected, and proper balance is used in the planning and construction of new subdivisions.
I've lived in Commission District B nearly my entire life—Kathy and I lived in the same house for over 28 years. District B is my home, and I'm working hard to keep it a great place to live and raise a family.

| Question: |
I used to be active in the rodeo circuit when I was younger, and I see you're
still in the saddle. Any advice for an old-timer wanting to get a few more belt
buckles? |
| Answer: |
Hold on tight, stay clear of the horns and always break your fall! But I'm
sure you already know to do that. Here in Nevada we have some great rodeo facilities,
with world class events. There's room to ride and wrangle, and if you need rodeo
gear you can get it right here in Las Vegas. Whether you're a spectator or participant,
there's something here in Nevada for every rodeo fan, and on every level.
