Tom Collins is running for the Clark County Commission based on his deep roots
in our community and a vested stake in the future of Southern Nevada. As a small
business owner, a community activist, and a five-term Assemblyman, Tom Collins
life is a testament to his commitment to our quality of life.
 Tom's
family moved to Clark County in 1951, when Tom was a one-year old, and with the
exception of several years when Tom attended college in Texas, he has lived here
ever since. He and his wife Kathy have called their present house home for almost
30 years.
Tom went
to elementary, middle and high school here in Clark County. Tom was active in
sports, and it was at Western High School where Tom met his future wife. Tom and
Kathy married shortly after graduating from Western.
Collins
worked for Nevada Power Company for over 18 years as a power line installer. In
1995 as an experienced Journeyman-Lineman, Tom left Nevada Power to open his own
business, Collins Power Services, a power line installation company which works
closely with Nevada Power and the building industry. Collins Power Services is
a family affair, co-owned by Tom and his wife Kathy.
Tom is
truly a good neighbor, giving his time freely for twenty-five years. As a child
Tom shared his home with foster brothers and sisters, an experience he feels cemented
his strong concern for children. He has donated countless hours to youth activities
such as Boy Scouts (as Scoutmaster and Merit Badge Counselor), Little League baseball,
Pop Warner football, basketball and soccer programs.
Since an early age Tom demonstrated a passion for rodeo, and that passion continues
to this day. He won a college scholarship for his rodeo skills, and he has been
a finalist in the National Senior Pro Rodeo Finals. He is a member of the National
Senior Pro Rodeo Association and the Nevada Horse Council.

In addition to his active community involvement, Tom has served as Chairman
of the Regional Transportation Commission's Citizen Advisory Committee, and he
spent seven years on the North Las Vegas Planning Commission, retiring as chairman.
Tom was first elected to the Nevada State Assembly in 1992 and has served during
five sessions and four special sessions of the legislature. He has served on the
Education, Judiciary, Transportation and Labor and Management Committees. He is
now the Chair of the Natural Resources, Agriculture and Mining Committee, and
his experience and background makes him an excellent choice for that important
position.
Tom and Kathy Collins have been married thirty-six years. They have two grown,
married children and five grandchildren. Tom's mother-in-law resides with Tom
and Kathy, and Tom's mother lives just a short drive away. Tom's first-hand experience
taught him the challenges older people may face on a daily basis. It's a lesson
Tom will not forget.

Tom Collins applies his background and life's experiences to public service.
He's worked to improve our neighborhoods, help our children, and give us a voice
in government. Tom won a reputation as a hard working, well liked Assemblyman.
We can count on him to use the same values and skills on the Clark County Commission
because we know Tom Collins truly has deep roots in our community and a real stake
in Southern Nevada's future.

Tom is pleased to announce
his new grandson, Spencer Collins,
born 9-15-04, weighing
9 pounds, 8 ounces. |
